Everything You Ever Wanted to Learn About Pumpkin Soup Varieties

by Ken Kudra

Pumpkin soup can be made with many variations. While you may not think of many off the top of your head, there are many ways to approach this meal besides the classic creamed soup. Easy recipes include a honey roasted pumpkin soup, which is made from pumpkin, onions and garlic drizzled with honey before roasting. It is simple and delicious.

Pumpkin and cheese makes another easy combination. Simply use canned pumpkin puree in this simple soup. Combine the ingredients of cream, spices, broth, grated cheddar cheese, and some brown sugar to create a lovely dish. Serve with hot fresh bread or melt additional cheese on top of the bowl, like French onion soup.

Another twist on classic pumpkin soup adds real maple syrup to the soup as well as some Marsala wine. The rich flavors blend together, creating an incredible meal. Be sure and use real maple syrup... the imitation syrups just will not have the same effect on the soup.

Pumpkin soup can be changed according to the cuisine. You can make Thai soup, Haitian soup, Mexican or even Jamaican pumpkin soup. Each of these soups contains pumpkin, yet the spices of the hosting cuisine prevail, adding a new touch to them all.

If you want a more exotic flavor to your soup, try pumpkin curry soup. This soup uses a light, aromatic curry that adds a little spice. Stronger curries are not recommended due to the possibility of overwhelming the pumpkin flavor. This soup can be made easily with canned pumpkin at any time of year. It also makes a wonderful appetizer to serve with any meal.

Specialty ingredients can also alter the results of your soup. Bacon adds a nice smokiness to the soup, while chocolate will make the most delicious dessert soup. Pumpkin soup can be spicy, too. Peppers of various types as well as curry and other spices can be used to create a complex flavor. Peanut butter can make a distinctive soup when mixed with pumpkin and sausage. This is a fast recipe that can be put together in a short amount of time.

Ingredients you traditionally associate with fall like apples are often added to pumpkin soup. You can use other winter squashes like butternut or acorn in your soup. Even sweet potatoes will add a new twist, adding their own sweetness and texture. Do not be afraid to use herbs to create different flavor blends in your soup. In the hot days of summer, try a chilled pumpkin soup that will help your guests cool down admirably.

No matter what variation of pumpkin soup you want to try, you will be treated to a rich, flavorful meal that will fill you up. The creamy texture of the soup is satisfying and velvety. It may become a new favorite. If you do not have a lot of time, you can always make your soup in a crockpot and let it cook all day long.

Roasted Jalapeno

by Anthony Tripp

If you're trying to eat healthier food and get more fit, one of the most important things you can do is eliminate fried foods from your diet. But what if you love jalapeno poppers and don't want to give them up? Don't worry, you can enjoy roasted jalepeno peppers if you know how to make them.

The jalapeno pepper in a jalapeno popper is hardly recognizable anymore. Before it was given the popper treatment it was a fresh vegetable. Then it's stuffed with cheese and meat, coated with bread crumbs and deep fried in hot oil. There are some variations but most are just as unhealthy. You can substitute the bread crumbs with a batter or stuff with bacon instead of chorizo but there are much better ways to make a healthy stuffed jalapeno pepper.

When you pick a cheese to stuff the pepper, stay clean of the cream cheese. Picking a low fat or part skim cheese is a good choice. Dairy products like cheese will tone down the spiciness of the peppers. So if you like it hot, why not skip the cheese all together. Or you can go with a really strong cheese like blue cheese or goat cheese and you won't have to use as much.

So what can you stuff the pepper with to make add to the flavor without adding to the calories? How about adding a tiny bit of salsa to the cheese. Thats always a nice combination. If you feel you need even more vegetables then go with corn and or onions. Theyll mix well with the cheese.

One important thing to remember is to get a jalapeno pepper roaster. They are usually a stainless steel rack that goes in the oven or the barbecue and holds the peppers upright. This way you can get a nice roast on the pepper without all of the stuffing oozing out and being wasted.

If youre a fan of the jalapeno popper but are trying to cut back on the deep frying and eat a little healthier, then it is time to try roasted jalapeno peppers.
